Hester and Mr. Shepard had this building constructed in 1887 after theSeptember 1887 fire that swept through downtown Sanford. The building originallyhad three floors, but the top floor was condemned and removed in 1928. This blockserved as Sanford's first fire station from 1890 to 1974. The building also served as theCity Hall, Police Station and Jail.
